SHARK-MAN STEFAN BRADL LEADS THE WAY IN MOTO2 IN QATAR

BRADL PodiumThis weekend the MotoGP championship returned for the 2011 season from the Losail circuit, Qatar. Leading the way in Moto2 was 21-year-old German, Stefan Bradl. The SHARK-protected rider impressed in qualifying and gave a preview of what was to come with a pole position time 1.736s faster than last year’s. Leaving his rivals behind off the start-line, Bradl’s pace continued to grow lap-after-lap eventually giving him a lead of over 14 seconds – the young German sensibly backed off the pace and won the race by a impressive 7.710 seconds ahead of the pack.

Fellow SHARK riders, Jules Cluzel and Aleix Espargaro finished in seventh and 11th places. Brit Scott Redding was optimistic going into the first race starting from tenth on the grid, but crashed out on the second lap after losing the front-end. Remounting determined to finish the race, Redding managed to gain vital data and information to help him with his 2011 campaign for the next round at Jerez.

In the 125cc class SHARK-riders Efren Vazquez and Johann Zarco finished the weekend in fourth and sixth positions. In 2010 Vazquez finished the season overall in fifth position.

Randy De Puniet started the weekend in a very promising position after registering the fifth fastest time, however the race did not go as well as expected. After a few turns from the start De Puniet lost control of the back of his bike hitting his team-mate and crashing out of the race.

The MotoGP championship continues from Jerez, Spain in two weeks time. This weekend sees the European round of the World Superbike Championship making a return to Donington Park.

Stefan BRADLStefan Bradl, Moto2 – first:
“It’s just unbelievable, because the weekend just worked so well for me. I’m just happy because I don’t find any words for that. From the beginning of the free practice we were so competitive and everythin g is going easy. A special thanks to my team because they did a great job and especially to my family because they give me so much support and they’re at home.”

Scott Redding, Moto2 – 31st:
« I’m really disappointed and this wasn’t the way I expected to start the season at all. The new chassis we’re running this year has improved the rear traction a lot but I haven’t found a good feeling with the front yet. The front is a bit too unpredictable at the moment, so I never really know when I’m going to have a problem. I was pushing into the second corner and without any warning I lost the front. I tried to pick it up on my elbow but it was too late and I was down. The left footpeg broke off and the left handlebar was all bent but I carried on because my guys in the Marc VDS Racing Team have worked really hard all weekend. It is always good to start the season with some good resul ts to build up confidence and I am convinced we will bounce back in Jerez. I was fast at the test recently and, hopefully, I’ll be able to show much more of what I’m capable of. »

Randy De Puniet, MotoGP – DNF
« I’m sorry for the fall and to have the misfortune to hit my team-mate. The rear tire was probably still cold on the left side and as soon as I opened the throttle the bike raised in the air and all of a sudden I found my nose on the ground. It ‘s really a shame because we were very confident after the good warm up that we had done. The only thing we can do do is think of Jerez where in two weeks time we will try to redeem this unfortunate weekend. »
