SHARK riders in action in Spain and the Isle of Man

This weekend SHARK’s supported riders headed to Spain for the fifth round of the MotoGP Championship at Catalunya, and the Isle of Man TT road races kicked off.

MotoGP rookie Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda) impressed the paddock once again with another solid performance. Finishing eventually in eighth place, the SHARK-man battled with his more experienced rivals and crossed the line almost five seconds behind Valentino Rossi.

In the Moto2 class, Scott Redding (Marc VDS) fought for the lead in the early stages of the race, but dropped back after his right hand became numb, making it difficult for the SHARK-rider to brake and open the throttle with any feeling. Redding made a decision to drop back to try and regain feeling in his hand, without any success. Redding defended tenth place to the finish. Johann Zarco (JiR) finished just outside the top-ten in 11th place.

The next round of the MotoGP Championship will take place in two weeks 15-17 June at Silverstone, for the British Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, the famous Isle of Man TT races kicked off on Saturday with the Superbike/Formula 1 TT race. Australian David Johnson (Quattro Plant Kawasaki) made his return to the TT, after not taking part in the races last year. Following a successful practice week, the SHARK-man finished 14th in the grueling 37-mile race in 1 hour and 51 minutes, and did just under a 126mph lap. Fellow SHARK-supported riders Ryan Farquhar (KMR Kawasaki) and Ian Lougher (IRL Kawasaki) both retired from the race.

Racing continues on the Isle of Man today with the first Supersport and Superstock races taking place.

Stefan Bradl, LCR Honda MotoGP: eight – “In the first part of the race I could follow the top riders and I was very aggressive. But as soon as the tyres started to work properly we had some issue and it started spinning too much. We were on the hard tyre considering the last two days track temperature while the most of the guys in front were on the soft ones. Unfortunately the spinning started very early because we did not have enough edge grip compared to the other riders and we were also expecting to have more dry grip, but at the end it was not there. I am a bit frustrated because my potential and the bike package were there but we could not use the tyre correctly. Eighth position is still okay and in tomorrow’s testing day we are looking forward to improve the bike for future races”.

Scott Redding, Moto2: tenth – « I felt good, the bike was good and I got away from the line okay, but then I started having problems with my throttle hand. When I was tucked in on the bike it started to go numb, as if something was pressing on a nerve somewhere. I let a couple of people through so that I could relax a bit and see if it improved, but it just wouldn’t go away. It meant I was struggling with feeling, both on the gas and on the brakes, which was losing me time in every corner. It’s disappointing because without this problem I know I could have been up there and battling at the front today. »
