PODIUMS AND POINTS FOR SHARK-RIDERS AT CROFT AND LE MANS

Loris Baz, SHARK rider, third and fifth at CroftThis weekend the third round of the British Superbike Championship continued from the Croft circuit in Yorkshire. SHARK-supported riders Loris Baz and Alex Lowes (Evo) both had successful weekends; Baz started race one on the front row following impressive qualifying times on Saturday. A wet race one saw Baz a front-runner for much of the race alongside Lowes, but it was Baz who took third place with Lowes winning the Evo class close behind in fourth position. During the second race Baz again was a front-runner, and finished fifth, while Lowes crossed the line aboard his WFR Evo Honda in 11th place claiming his second win of the weekend in the Cup championship.

Double Evo win for Alex Lowes, SHARK riderIn the Supersport 600 Championship Ben Wilson continued his successful 2011 campaign racing to a double win. Wilson leads the championship by a healthy 39 points ahead of second placed Jack Kennedy. Another SHARK podium followed in the Superstock 1000 class with Danny Buchan stepping onto the third step – Buchan is second overall with 61 points. Fellow SHARK-rider Conor Cummins continued his return to racing finishing in 18th position.

Ashley Beech scored two third place finishes in the Triumph Triple Challenge ahead of SHARK-supported Philip Atkinson and Tom Hayward who claimed fifth and seventh in race one – race two saw Hayward finish in a respectable sixth place. Young-Brit Karl Ryde followed his second place finish at Oulton Park a few weekends ago to step once again onto the second place spot in the 125 GP with fellow SHARK-supported Lee Jackson a close fourth.

Meanwhile the fourth round of the MotoGP series continued from Le Mans, in France. Stefan Bradl again stepped onto the Moto2 podium in second place continuing his successful start to the season; Bradl leads the Moto2 championship by 28 points. Scott Redding continued his torrid start to the 2011 season finishing just outside the points in the Moto2 Champions hip. The 125cc class saw another SHARK-rider on the podium with Efren Vazquez claiming third spot ahead of fellow SHARK-supported Johann Zarco in fifth place. Zarco is ahead of Vazquez in the championship in third by just seven points. A bad weekend was had for Randy de Puniet at his home round – the Frenchman lasted only a few turns in the race after loosing the front of the bike and hadn’t even completed the first lap.

Danny Buchan finished third in Superstock 1000Danny Buchan, Superstock 1000: third:
“That was a tough race, we haven’t had much luck here and didn’t qualify very well so to come away with a podium is a great result. The problem with the Superstock class is that you don’t have much time on track during the weekend, so if you can’t find a set-up quickly you struggle to get a decent grid position. Luckily in the race I got a good start and managed to get my head down and run with the leaders. It was a tough battle for the last podium posi tion with Adam Jenkinson and I didn’t hear him crash on the last lap – I just rode the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R as hard as I could until I saw the flag.”

Stefan Bradl, SHARK rider, claims third at Le MansStefan Bradl, Moto2: third:

“I was trying my maximum. Marquez and Takahashi used different tyres to me. At the beginning I had a good rhythm so I could push hard and make a small gap, but during the second half of the race I struggled with edge grip. I was losing out to the other guys on the exits, so I had to push very hard at the corner entries. I pushed to the maximum and this podium result is very important for the championship.”

Scott Redding, Moto2: 16th:

Considering I qualified in fifth position and felt really confident and comfortable on the bike, to finish with no points again is pretty disappointing. It was much cooler today so we decided to put the soft compound tyre in and it was probably the wrong choice. It worked fine for the first five laps but then I had some spinning issues. Coming out of Turn 3 I was having big movement from the rear. I also had trouble with the quickshifter. It wouldn’t engage a gear and it was jumping out of third. It was a real problem coming out of Turn 4 because you’re on the edge of the tyre and trying to select a gear meant I was constantly fighting with the bike for the whole of the race. Those little problems made it difficult to stay with the group I was in and trying to make up some time I ran wide on the brakes at Turn 6 on lap 11. The whole weekend had gone really good and I expected a much better result. I’ll try and put this disappointing start to the season behind me in Cat alunya and try and get a result the Marc VDS Racing Team deserves. »

Randy De Puniet, Moto2, DNF:

« I do not know what to say, I do not understand how I managed to fall like this. It’s been very strange, the front has suddenly lost the grip and I slipped. I’m disappointed, I am angry: I wanted to do well in this race. Tomorrow I’ll only have in mind the next GP in Barcelona, but now I cannot forget what happened today. I’m sorry about what happened this morning with Casey. I was adjusting the brake, thinking that I had no one behind. Then, suddenly, I saw Casey coming behind me at full speed, I tried to leave the road to him, but unfortunately I went where he was pointing. I’m sorry and even if his reaction was not the best, for me it’s all put in the past and I have nothing wrong against him.”
